Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the general supervision of the Director or designate, the Dietitian provides nutrition services to clients/patients referred to the Bariatric Clinic. Utilizing knowledge & clinical experience in the area of bariatric nutrition, the dietitian in collaboration with the Nurse Coordinator and the multidisciplinary team is responsible for client/patient selection into the program as well as to function as a clinical resource providing consultation and education to physicians, other health care professionals, other team members and clients/patients in matters relating to the continuum of bariatric nutritional care. Assesses, plans, implements and provides nutrition counseling, teaching, and follow up to selected clients/patients in accordance with standards for best practice in bariatric nutritional care. In collaboration with members of the bariatric team, the dietitian provides information, instruction, counseling, and support to identified stakeholders and clients/patients to ensure continuity of care. The dietitian collaborates with the Bariatric Clinic Team, communicates client/patient progress to Bariatric Clinic team, surgeon, family physician, and other care providers. Travel may be required to see patients at either site. Use of personal vehicle may be required on occasion.
Baccalaureate degree from a recognized university in dietetics/nutrition.
Completion of an accredited dietetic internship program.
Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Dietitian required.
Knowledge of bariatric surgical procedures, behavior change and weight management models,
2 years recent related experience in a combination of a clinical setting, experience in an outpatient care setting, inclusive of experience in a program development and/or education support role, and experience leading and participating in quantitative and qualitative research projects, or evidence of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid BC Driver's License required.
