Job summary

Peel Region is seeking a Dietary Aide for Malton Village, LT Care, on-site role with weekend/holiday shifts. You will assist in meal preparation, serve residents, and help maintain dining areas in a person-centered care environment.

Requirements include a Food Service Worker Certificate and Food Safety Certification, with a focus on strong English communication and reliability for a part-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Food Service Worker Certificate program certification.
• Must have a valid Food Safety Certification or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire.
• Strong oral and written English communication required.
• Experience in an institutional food service setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

Dietary Aide –Malton VillageHealth Services – Long Term Care

1 Regular Part Time opportunity - no guaranteed hours, various shifts, including weekends and holidays

Shifts: 6:30AM-2:30PM,10:30AM-6:30PM, 11:30AM-7:30PM, including alternate weekends and holidays

Compensation: $27.52 -$29.20 per hour (as per collective agreement) CUPE LOCAL #966Work Mode: OnsiteLocation: Malton Village - 7075 Rexwood Rd, Mississauga, ON L4T 4M1

The Long Term Care Division requires staff to provide person-centered care to our residents and families following the Butterfly Philosophy of Care. This will ensure high levels of emotional wellbeing and a better quality of life for those living in our homes. Staff are to have emotional intelligence ability to deliver person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the resident and their family.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work a variety shifts along with every other weekend and holidays.

What you will do in this role:

• Prepare food and beverages as per food production schedule and posted menu. May cook simple dishes (including breakfast), pan, tend and remove items from the stove, microwave, retherm cart etc
• Maintain the kitchen, dining rooms and serveries in a clean and orderly manner which includes cleaning assigned areas on a daily and weekly basis, in addition to the cleaning of equipment
• Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils
• Portion and serve meals in the dining rooms and prepare trays for distribution to other areas according to the Dietary Census
• Provide assistance to the residents in the dining room as necessary
• Work with the team to enhance the quality of life for residentsand promote a pleasurable dining experience
• May set up dining room tables just prior to next meal and complete clean-up and warewashing duties after meals
• Assist with dining room decorations for special and seasonal theme days
• May update dietary records as required
• Obtain food and supplies and assist in the receiving, distributing, checking and storing of supplies
• Set up and deliver menu items and equipment to designated areas
• Accept and follow through on directions from the Cook in the performance of job duties in the absence of the Dietary Services Supervisor
• Maintain good relationships with the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
• Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by the Dietary Services Supervisor
• Assist in the orientation of new dietary staff
• Participate in relevant aspects of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to evaluate and improve client services
• Participate in committees as required
• Report health and safety hazards, actively participate in eliminating causes of accidents, and perform emergency occupational health and safety measures as required (WHIMS, Infection Control, Fire)
• Follow policies and procedures as outlined in the Centre’s manuals

What the Role Requires:

• High School diploma is required
• Certification under the Food Service Worker Certificate program at a college of applied arts and technology or a Food Service Worker Program provided by a private career college.
• Must have a valid Food Safety Certification course (Food Handlers Training), or must be willing to complete the Food Safety Certification program within 30 days within hire.
• Food service experience in an institutional setting is preferred.
• Must have effective oral and written communication skills in English.
• Must be able to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.
• Must have a strong desire to work in a food service setting and ability to relate to older adults.
• Must have physically able to perform all delegated duties
