Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a seasoned dietary leader to oversee food service for long-term care residents in Canada. You will manage nutrition plans, lead a multidisciplinary team, and collaborate with dietitians to ensure compliant, high-quality culinary services.

The role requires 3+ years in dietary roles and at least 1 year in leadership, with a strong focus on resident satisfaction, safety, and cost-effective operation.

Qualifications

  • CSNM membership or RD is required or preferred.
  • Valid Food Safety Handler's Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant dietary experience and one (1) year of leadership experience.
  • Passion for food production, food service and long-term care.

Responsibilities

  • Providing sustained support and actively participating in quality improvement processes and development of quality improvement plans
  • Achieving Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement targets
  • Managing the food service for residents with a focus on their individualized nutritional plan of care
  • Working with the multidisciplinary team along with residents and families to customize personalized menus
  • Ensuring food and fluid interventions are prepared and served appropriately
  • Ensuring menu items provided meet the assessed needs of the residents
  • Collaborating with dietitians and dietary team to ensure service delivery complies with policies and regulations
  • Ensuring infection prevention and control and food safety guidelines are followed
  • Completing low and moderate routine resident nutrition assessments as delegated by the RD (Ontario)
  • Maintaining operation excellence within defined budget
  • Managing vendor and community partnerships related to the delivery of culinary services
  • Hiring, training and engaging a team of dietary staff in a unionized environment
  • Taking a hands-on approach to leading, mentoring, and helping the dietary team as required

Job description

Job Description Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring menu items provided meet the assessed needs of the residents
  • Collaborating closely with dietitians and dietary team members to ensure service delivery is consistently compliant with organizational policies, procedures, and all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Ensuring the team is following required infection prevention and control and food safety guidelines
  • ONTARIO ONLY: Completing low and moderate routine resident nutrition assessments as delegated by the Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Maintaining operation excellence within defined budget
  • Managing vendor and community partnerships related to the delivery of culinary services
  • Hiring, training and engaging a team of dietary staff to deliver quality nutrition and culinary services in a unionized environment
  • Taking a hands‑on approach to leading, mentoring, and helping the dietary team as required
Qualifications
  • ONTARIO ONLY: Current membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) or Registered Dietitian
  • Valid Food Safety Handler's Certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant dietary experience and one (1) year of leadership experience
  • Passion for food production, food service and long‑term care
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
