Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Dietary Aide for Oakview Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. You will assist with plating and serving meals, help with kitchen duties, and ensure safety and cleanliness in serving areas and equipment.

Qualifications include a current Food Handler's Certificate and English literacy. Prior LTC dietary experience is preferred. Availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required; there is mentorship and growth opportunities within Extendicare.

• Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to read and write English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to lift moderate to heavy items.

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Observes time limits for meal serving and maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare simple foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher; cleans pots, pans, and utensils.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and leftovers.
• Adheres to departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, infection control.
• Assemble nourishment carts and stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings and attends in-service education programs.

Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.* Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.* Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.* Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.* Assemble nourishment carts.
