Diesel Mechanic

Balkan Sewer and Water Main Service is NYC’s largest house sewer and water service line contractor. Balkan also operates a comprehensive drain-cleaning company. We are seeking a highly skilled Diesel Truck Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of over 50 vehicles and equipment; Freightliner FL70's, MT55's service trucks, Mack tandem and tri-axle dump trucks, CAT backhoes, Case 580 backhoes, 185CFM and 210CFM air compressors, and a wide assortment of pneumatic and other tools.

Responsibilities
  • Manage work orders, and inventory of parts, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Service heavy diesel engine vehicles, including preventative, routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Handle routine repairs, including oil and tire changes
  • Diagnose and repair vehicles and all other equipment in our fleet.
  • Execute special projects as assigned by management.
  • Knowledge of DOT inspections and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Keep detailed records and maintenance schedules.
Qualifications
  • Valid and clean driver’s license.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
  • Minimum of 5 years of diesel vehicle relevant experience.
  • Owning a set of tools is a plus (but our mechanic's shop is fully equipped and stocked).
  • Mechanical and technical knowledge: use of computers and diagnostics tools to troubleshoot and repair all faulty equipment.
  • Be able to diagnose and repair: Electrical, Brakes, Exhaust, Suspension, Lights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and seek additional information as appropriate.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28 - $36 per hour
