Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Diagnostic Sonographer I to perform ultrasound services for diagnosis and monitoring, preparing patients, obtaining high-quality images, and assisting with interdisciplinary care.

The role includes imaging guidance in the Operating Room for women's health procedures and support for Interventional Radiology, with shifts across days, evenings, weekends and on-call to meet patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with ACMDTT.
  • Current BCLS-HCP.
  • Graduate of an approved ultrasound training program.
  • Ability to provide imaging guidance for women's health procedures in the OR.
  • Support Interventional Radiologists with ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Work independently in a busy Emergency Department on weekends/evenings.
  • Complete a scan interview as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized and complex ultrasound services for diagnosis and tracking.
  • Prepare patients, review history, explain procedures, obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  • Assist Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and staff as required.
  • Provide imaging guidance for women’s health procedures in the OR.
  • Support Interventional Radiology with ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Work efficiently in a busy Emergency Department during weekends and evenings.

Able to move between different diagnostic imaging procedures, you can provide high quality patient care and produce quality images that support physicians and health professionals in making accurate diagnoses, monitoring health conditions, or providing real-time guidance during medical procedures. Alberta Health Services (AHS) needs someone like you to join our dynamic team at the Peter Lougheed Centre, a centre of excellence for hematology, respiratory, vascular surgery, and addictions and mental health located in Northwest Calgary. As a Diagnostic Sonographer on our team, you will support a safe and efficient patient-and family-centered care experience. As part of an interdisciplinary Diagnostic Imaging Services team, this position takes a variety of ultrasound images on various organs, monitoring health conditions, and providing Maternal Fetal Medicine scans. The Diagnostic Sonographer in this role provides imaging guidance for women's health procedures in the Operating Room and supports Interventional Radiologists while performing Ultrasound-guided procedures. Description

As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved training program in Ultrasonography.
  • Ability to provide imaging guidance for women's health procedures in the Operating Room.
  • Ability to support Interventional Radiologists while performing Ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently supporting a very busy Emergency Department on Weekends and Evenings.
  • Should be able to complete a scan interview as part of the hiring process.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vascular and BCLS certifications.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine experience.
  • Demonstrated proficient organizational, technical, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
