Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on DEXA scanning experience (central spine/hip).
• Proficiency in DEXA image analysis and reporting software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to explain results clearly to members and clinicians.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is one of the most clinically valuable tools in our preventive care toolkit delivering accurate, reproducible measures of bone mineral density and body composition that inform fracture risk assessment, metabolic health, and long-term wellness planning.

We are looking for a certified and detail-oriented DEXA Technologist to join our diagnostic team and bring that precision to every scan. In this role, you will perform high-quality bone density and body composition studies as part of our comprehensive preventive health assessments and clinical programs, working closely with our clinical team to ensure results are interpreted and integrated meaningfully into each member's care. Key Responsibilities

DEXA scanning and image acquisition

• Perform high-quality dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans at central skeletal sites (lumbar spine, proximal femur, forearm) for bone mineral density assessment and fracture risk stratification.
• Conduct total body composition scans to accurately measure lean mass, fat mass, visceral adipose tissue, and regional body composition as part of comprehensive metabolic and preventive health profiles.
• Ensure precise patient positioning and scan acquisition in strict accordance with ISCD technical standards and manufacturer protocols to guarantee reproducible, diagnostically reliable results.
• Review each scan for image quality, artifact, and diagnostic completeness before releasing studies applying troubleshooting skills to optimize acquisition where needed.

Equipment calibration and quality control

• Perform daily phantom calibration and quality control procedures to verify scanner accuracy and consistency across scan sessions.
• Maintain detailed QC logs and elevate any equipment performance concerns promptly to ensure scan reliability is never compromised.
• Coordinate routine maintenance and servicing of DEXA equipment in collaboration with the operations team and manufacturer support.
• Uphold all radiation safety protocols, ensuring minimal exposure to members and staff in accordance with ALARA principles and applicable regulatory standards.

Member preparation and experience

• Welcome members to the imaging suite and prepare them for their scan with warmth, professionalism, and clarity explaining the procedure, the technology, and what the results will tell us about their health.
• Conduct a thorough member intake prior to scanning, reviewing contraindications, recent imaging, medications, and relevant clinical history that may affect interpretation.
• Ensure member comfort and correct positioning throughout the examination, with particular attentiveness to members who are older, less mobile, or apprehensive about the procedure.

Result analysis and clinical reporting

• Analyze DEXA outputs accurately including T-scores, Z-scores, bone mineral content (BMC), BMD values, and body composition metrics using the scanner's reporting software.
• Generate clear, well-structured scan reports that provide the reviewing physician with the data and context needed for high-quality clinical interpretation and decision‑making.
• Identify and flag clinically significant findings including low bone density, vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) findings, or body composition patterns to the appropriate physician promptly.
• Support longitudinal tracking by ensuring consistent scan protocols across follow‑up studies to enable valid comparisons over time.

Interdisciplinary collaboration and documentation

• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and the broader care team to ensure DEXA results are integrated into each member's preventive care plan and Unified Health Story.
• Document all procedures, QC records, and scan data accurately within the clinic's EHR and imaging management systems.
• Contribute to the refinement of DEXA protocols, member education materials, and diagnostic workflows as the clinic's imaging program develops.

Qualifications & Experience

• Registered with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), or eligible for registration.
• Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT®) through the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), or ARRT bone densitometry certification; ISCD CBDT® is strongly preferred.
• Background in radiologic technology, medical radiation technology, or a closely related clinical field.
• Minimum 1–2 years of hands‑on DEXA scanning experience, including central (spine and hip) and total body composition protocols.
• Proficiency in DEXA image analysis and reporting software.
• Strong working knowledge of bone health, osteoporosis, fracture risk assessment tools (FRAX), and body composition metrics and their clinical significance.
• Meticulous attention to positioning accuracy, scan quality, and QC protocol adherence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, warm, professional, and able to put members at ease while explaining technical results in plain language.
• Experience with EHR systems and digital imaging platforms.
• Experience in a private clinic, executive health, or preventive medicine setting is a strong asset.
