Ian Martin Group is recruiting a Senior DevOps Engineer to join a Calgary-based project. You will lead Azure-focused DevOps initiatives, design CI/CD pipelines, and drive automation across production environments for a major Canadian airline client.

You will collaborate on PCI compliance, cloud infrastructure, and guest-facing digital systems, with on-call rotations and a path to longer-term opportunities.

Qualifications

• Extensive DevOps experience with Azure focus.
• Proven Kubernetes (AKS) and container orchestration expertise.
• Advanced IaC and CI/CD pipelines (Terraform, Azure DevOps).
• Observability and monitoring experience with Splunk Cloud/Observability.
• Release coordination and 24x7 production support.
• Linux administration basics.
• Akamai CDN knowledge.
• Experience with Node.js and Java.
• Event bus administration (Kafka, Azure Event Hub) is a plus.
• Redis caching configuration (Azure Redis) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Pay Rate: $84.87 to $95.94/hour, depending on experience
• Contract Length: 6 Months, with the possibility of conversion to full-time employee

Description

The Senior DevOps Engineer with Release Coordination experience to join our client's technology team. In this critical role, you will help support and empower executive DevOps initiatives, relieving strain on core teams while driving high-impact projects. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the 2026/2027 roadmap goals, supporting PCI compliance work, and enhancing critical digital systems for our clients guests.

Responsibilities

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify, modernize, and enhance the systems that power 's digital guest experiences
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable secure, reliable, and automated delivery of APIs, applications, and platform services.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for cloud infrastructure, networking, security controls, monitoring, and platform components.
• Drive automation across operational processes, deployments, incident response, environment provisioning, and recovery procedures to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Implement and maintain observability solutions, including logging, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and distributed tracing to ensure platform reliability and performance.
• Automate, document, and continuously improve troubleshooting and operational runbooks for production services and critical guest-facing applications.
• Participate in a pre/post-hours on-call rotation, providing support for a 24x7 production environment while contributing to operational excellence initiatives that reduce support burden over time.
• Support release planning, deployment coordination, and change management activities across multiple teams and platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ Years of Enterprise DevOps Experience (Azure Focus): A solid decade of hands-on experience in DevOps engineering, with a clear and demonstrated preference for the Microsoft Azure cloud ecosystem.
• Kubernetes (AKS) & Container Orchestration Expertise: Proven history designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade containerized environments using Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Advanced Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) & CI/CD Pipelines: Deep, practical experience building automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps and managing infrastructure declaratively via Terraform.
• Observability & Monitoring Implementation: Direct experience setting up enterprise-grade monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing platforms—specifically highlighting tools like Splunk Cloud or Splunk Observability.
• Release Coordination & 24x7 Production Support: Experience with cross-functional release planning, change management, and participating in on-call rotations for high-availability, mission-critical production environments.
• Linux administration

• JavaScript (Node.js) and Java programming experience
• Event Broker administration (Kafka, Azure Event Hub) (nice to have)

• Education and Certifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
• Nice to have certifications DevOps Engineer Expert (Exam AZ-400), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), HashiCorp Certified, Splunk Certified Power User / Administrator, or Akamai Certified (Edge Platform / Web Security Solutions)
