Job summary

Leduc County is seeking an experienced Planner – Development Services to join our team in Nisku, AB. Reporting to the Manager– Development Services, this role provides information, assistance and advice on subdivision and development processes and assists in plan preparation and review.

You will manage priorities, support public consultations, review development permit applications, and ensure compliance with Alberta legislation, including the Municipal Government Act.

Qualifications

• A degree in planning or a related discipline.
• Two (2) years of planning experience.
• Must maintain or be eligible for membership in the Alberta Development Officers Association or the Canadian Institute of Planners.
• Knowledge of Alberta planning legislation and land use bylaws related to land development, the Alberta Land Titles system, the Municipal Government Act, and associated regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, environmental and socio-economic reports, and building/site plans.
• Ability to review, interpret and evaluate statutory plans, land use, subdivision and development proposals.
• Effective communication of complex technical information and providing professional customer service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a Development Officer for Leduc County and assists with development planning issues and Land Use Bylaw administration.
• Reviews and decisions on development permit applications, compliance certificates and variance applications.
• Investigates complaints related to compliance and enforces as needed under the Land Use Bylaw and MGA.
• Supports the preparation of land use and statutory plans.
• Provides planning information and advisory support to the public, Council, and other boards.
• Researches and carries out special projects, studies and reports as assigned.
• Reviews subdivision applications and administers subdivision development agreements.
• Assists with public consultation and public hearing processes.
