Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in fundraising and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of CRA fundraising rules in Alberta.
  • Experience with donor database management software is required.

Job Overview : Reporting to the Director of Fund Development, the Development Officer- Major Gifts creates meaningful engagement opportunities for donors and community supporters. The Development Officer – Major Gifts is an integral member of the Fund Development Team, building philanthropic relationships and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. The Development Officer – Major Gifts will be responsible for identifying potential sources of funding, developing, and executing cultivation and solicitation strategies and driving the acquisition of Major Gifts in the $10, - $, range. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with current donors and new prospects.
  • Develop and enhance donor relations through thoughtful and intentional fundraising strategies.
  • Manage a portfolio of individuals, corporations, and private / public foundations with a projected gift range of $10, - $,+.
  • Create both personalized and organizational content for donor communications including thank you letters, impact reports, cases for support, proposals, newsletters, personal notes and impact stories for individuals, corporations, foundations, and service clubs.
  • Work closely with the fund development team to ensure donor acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship activities are activated in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Program Leads and Teams to develop a strong knowledge and understanding of The Alex and its programs so as to promote and increase awareness of the Alex within the broader community.
  • Track and enter all relationships, activities, actions, information, and outcomes in the donor database.
  • Participate in fulfilling future capital campaigns at The Alex.
  • Provide donor relationship management and support for the executive leadership and The Alex Board of Directors.
  • Analyze and report on KPI’s for major gift portfolio in alignment with the Fund Development Plan and The Alex’s Strategic Plan.
  • Practice ethical fundraising, aligned with the mission and values of The Alex and AFP’s Code of Ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising, community engagement and previous experience in the non-profit sector is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules and guidelines regarding fundraising in Canada, specifically Alberta.
  • Experience with fundraising and donor database management software is required; experience with Donor Perfect is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the social services and / or community health sector
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a passion for telling community and impact stories.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, analytical, problem-solving skills, and ability to balance multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills : an ability to work effectively collaboratively and inclusively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional computer and software skills, with experience working in MS Teams and MS Office Suite and advanced database skills.
  • Professionalism and tact in handling highly sensitive and confidential information ethically and with discretion.
  • A class 5 driver's license, clean drivers abstract, and a personal vehicle that can be used for work purposes, or an alternative travel solution, are required.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record check is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada : Calls to Action.

Work Environment and Hours :

  • The Alex Community Health Centre ( 2nd Ave SE); attendance at meetings and events within the city limits is required.
  • 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours / week)
  • Standard hours 8 : 30am – 4 : 30pm Monday-Friday; some flexibility in schedule may be available.
  • Shifts on evenings and weekends for events may be required.
  • Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up / down stairwells).
  • Occasional driving / travel will be required as part of work duties
