Job summary

Commissionaires BC is hiring casual on-call detention guards for the RCMP detachment in Bella Coola. You will monitor the safety and well-being of persons in custody and perform related duties. Shift times are on-call days, evenings and overnights, with pay of $22 per hour.

You must live within 60 minutes of the detachment and be able to obtain RCMP clearance. Responsibilities include prisoner observation, searches under direction, logging activity, maintaining security, and handling medications

Qualifications

• Must be 19 years or older.
• Valid Basic First Aid Certificate (OF A level 1 or equivalent) or willingness to complete.
• Able to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance (4–6 months).
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English.
• Vision standards RCMP-V4 (eyeglasses permitted).
• Able to lift up to 20 kg and climb stairs as needed.
• Willing to undergo detention guard training incl. WHMIS.
• Able to work with minimal supervision and stay discreet.

Responsibilities

• Observe and check prisoners frequently, including CCTV use.
• Assist RCMP with prisoner searches under direction.
• Organize meals, log prisoner activity, and maintain logs.
• Maintain cell cleanliness when vacated and coordinate janitorial help.
• Conduct cell searches before occupancy and after vacancy.
• Ensure cell doors stay locked and security is maintained.
• Secure personal effects removed from prisoners.
• Monitor fire safety and follow fire orders.
• Handle and dispense laundry items as required.
• Dispense prescribed medications to custody individuals under supervision.
• Perform other duties requested by the detachment.
