Job summary

Commissionaires on Vancouver Island is seeking Detention Guards to monitor the safety of detainees under RCMP supervision. The role requires First Aid certification, RCMP reliability clearance, and strong English communication skills.

You will work a variety of shifts with opportunities for advancement, including on‑call and casual backup coverage across Ladysmith and surrounding detachment locations. The wage is $22.85/hr with RRSP contributions by the employer and shift premiums.

Qualifications

• First Aid level 1 required; certification maintained by Commissionaires.
• Able to obtain RCMP Reliability and Public Works Reliability Clearance (RCMP clearance can take 4–6 months).
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safety and well‑being of persons in custody.
• Assist RCMP with searches as required; training provided.
• Organize meals, record prisoner activity and maintain logs.
• Monitor prisoners in hospital when required.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of cells and report damages.
• Ensure cellblock security and locked doors at all times.
• Dispense approved medications under RCMP supervision.
• Perform escort duties and detachment-specific tasks as needed.
