Design & Validation Engineer – R&D

Position Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will be responsible for supporting engineering functions from design, development, and implementation of procedures for testing systems and equipment.

Performance Expectations

1. Evaluate static and dynamic stability of Skyjack equipment through engineering calculations and testing in accordance with applicable standards.
2. Develop testing equipment and test plans required for testing and validation.
3. Develop and carry out validation and test procedures on various components and subsystems on Skyjack equipment, focusing on improving reliability and performance.
4. Document testing findings through comprehensive reports and present them to management or colleagues as required.
5. Develop technical documentation for formal certification.
6. Maintain and update test and data acquisition equipment inventory to ensure efficient validation procedures.
7. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose issues and recommend improvements.
8. Apply established or modified engineering methods independently.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Credentials

• University or college degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or relevant engineering programs.
• Preference given to candidates pursuing or registered for P.Eng designation.

Desired Characteristics

• Experience as a Test & Validation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Electrical Design Engineer in a mobile/heavy equipment manufacturing environment.
• Experience in engineering calculations and testing.
• Design and 3D modeling experience.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with technical teams and manufacturing personnel.
• Ability to work independently and in groups.
• Comfort with instrumentation and measurement tools.
• Knowledge of PLCs or programmable devices is an asset.
• Experience with data acquisition hardware/software (LabVIEW, Somat) is an asset.
• Familiarity with engineering software (MathCad, FEA, CFD, Automation Studio, MATLAB Simulink) is an asset.
• Experience troubleshooting control circuits, electrical, and hydraulic systems is an asset.
• Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic testing and developing related test plans is an asset.
