Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Design Manager to join our Mississauga team. This on-site role supports a new airport project, providing leadership across design development, planning, and coordination with the main contractor.

The candidate will oversee design reviews, manage design consultancy agreements, and coordinate input from stakeholders including regulatory bodies, airlines, and authorities having jurisdiction. A strong technical background and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Engineering or Architecture with 8+ years in large capital programs.
• Typically requires 10+ years of professional experience.
• Specialized experience in design management of technology systems (BMS, Life Safety, Power Monitoring, PBBs, APCs) and other building tech infrastructure.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with MicroStation, Civil 3D and BIM software is an asset. Strong MS Office skills.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Design Manager to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. This position is for a newly created position.

We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Major Responsibilities

• Leads the implementation and coordination of multi-disciplinary design standards, working in close collaboration with the main contractor.
• Oversees all pre-construction services, including design planning, site development, permitting, and procurement support across all design phases.
• Serves as the primary client interface throughout all project phases, providing technical leadership, guidance, and subject matter expertise in design development.
• Manages design consultancy agreements to ensure alignment with contract requirements related to technical specifications, schedules, and budgets.
• Facilitates design reviews and ensures timely, coordinated input from all stakeholders to support efficient decision-making.
• Oversees reviews conducted by external stakeholders, including airlines, regulatory agencies, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Prepares and presents progress and performance reports to senior management and executive leadership, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
• Coordinates the client’s design review and approval process across all phases, ensuring a smooth transition from Development to Construction.
• Provides technical support to delivery teams, applying knowledge of design phases and facility requirements to inform construction planning and execution.
• Leads and coordinates quality reviews to ensure design compliance with program scope and technical requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• University Degree in Engineering or Architecture + 8 years of experience in large capital programs in an engineering / design management position with a focus on terminal renovation / improvement programs.

Preferred Requirements

• Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
• Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
• Specialized experience in the design management of technology systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), Life Safety Systems, Power Monitoring Systems, Passenger Boarding Bridges, Automated People Movers, and other building technology infrastructure.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; experience with MicroStation, Civil 3D, and BIM software is considered an asset. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Proven ability to conduct comprehensive design reviews and effectively lead design coordination activities.
• Solid understanding of program development processes, including scope definition, cost estimation, scheduling, and risk analysis.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead meetings and workshops with diverse and large stakeholder groups.
• Strong technical expertise across all phases of project development, with a track record of solving complex challenges through data analysis and informed decision-making.
• Demonstrated experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and delivering high-level strategic reporting to support effective executive decision-making.

This position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $160000 to $200000.
