Job summary

Stryker in Toronto, via Molli Surgical, is seeking an R&D Engineer to design, develop and verify mechanical components for medical devices. You will collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to drive project success.

You will work under supervision, perform prototyping and bench testing, interpret customer needs, learn design controls under the Quality Management System, and contribute to cross‑functional problem solving.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical or related discipline.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering practices and tools.
  • Basic CAD/CAE modeling tools knowledge; SolidWorks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, design, develop and verify mechanical components for medical devices.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and PM to ensure project success.
  • Support prototyping, bench testing, and interpretation of customer needs.
  • Learn design controls and risk management within the Quality Management System.

What you will do
  • Under supervision, design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components for medical devices.
  • With supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
  • Under supervision, conduct research and studies to support product design, assist with prototyping and bench testing.
  • Support problem solving, root cause analysis, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against requirements.
  • Understand the product’s intended use and clinical procedures.
  • Interpret customer needs and understand design inputs.
  • Understand fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which align with regulatory requirements.
  • With supervision, create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file per company design control procedures.
  • Learn R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
  • Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learning while gaining experience, demonstrating ownership, building relationships, and integrity of work.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, BioMedical, or related discipline.
  • 0+ years of work experience
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and tools, design principles.
  • Basic knowledge of design and concept generation CAD or CAE modeling tools (SolidWorks preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of design and concept generation CAD or CAE modeling tools (ProE, Creo or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods
  • Technical ability to create, read, and interpret engineering drawings and models, applying GD&T and CAE tools.
  • Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods
Canada Pay Ranges

Canada: $69,000 - $92,000 CAD Annual Travel Percentage: 10%

Work Flexibility

Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.

Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.

Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements.

Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.

Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co‑located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
