Job summary

The Town of Canmore seeks a Deputy Fire Chief Administration & Training to lead administrative functions, training programs, and firefighter competency management within CFR. Reporting to the Fire Chief, you will ensure operational readiness and effective records management, workforce scheduling, and policy administration.

You will develop training matrices, coordinate certifications, and oversee payroll, recruitment, onboarding, and leadership development.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in emergency management, public safety, fire prevention, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fire services or emergency management.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership/instructor role with program delivery or oversight.
  • NFPA certifications: 1001/1021/1041/1521.
  • ICS 300 and operational command training (Blue Card).

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership during emergency incidents and incident command as needed.
  • Develop and maintain training matrices and competency tracking systems.
  • Coordinate firefighter certifications, recertifications, and credentialing.
  • Lead payroll, scheduling, records management, and policy administration.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and leadership development.
