The University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Dentistry is recruiting outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences (OBMS), supported through the UBC President’s Academic Excellence Initiative. This position aims to reinforce the Faculty's leadership in Oral Health Research in Canada, aligning with Canada’s National Oral Health Research Strategy (NORHS, DOI: 10.1177/00220345241299360).
The Faculty seeks exceptional scholars to lead research in oral and systemic microbiomes and their interactions with the host. Candidates must hold a PhD and postdoctoral training in a relevant field, with a solid understanding of oral microbiomes. Expertise in cariology and skills in AI are assets. A DMD/DDS or dental hygiene degree is highly desirable but not required. The successful candidate will be an emerging leader capable of developing an independent research program, enhancing existing research and teaching excellence, and aligning with the goals of the Canadian National Oral Health Research Strategy.
Applicants should employ advanced methodologies in oral proteomics and metabolomics. Collaboration with existing research themes at the Faculty, including Craniofacial Development and Preclinical Disease Models and Matrix Biology, Infection, Immunity, and Biomaterials Research, is encouraged. Research groups in endodontics, periodontics, biomaterials, and craniofacial development are currently investigating biofilms and their interactions with the host.
The candidate will supervise undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral trainees. Evidence of recent research productivity (first or senior author publications in established journals over the past three years) and previous grant or salary awards will be favorably considered. Strong interpersonal skills, collegiality, and collaborative spirit are essential. The candidate should support the Faculty’s educational mandate by teaching foundational and oral microbiology to DMD, dental hygiene, and graduate students.
The appointment will be full-time at UBC, with salary, rank, and appointment status commensurate with qualifications and experience.
