Job summary

The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a licensed Dental Hygienist for a dayshift, Monday to Friday, 7:30-15:30. The role requires Ontario registration and a diploma in Dental Hygiene, with at least two years of related experience and comfort working with medically compromised patients.

Ideal candidates possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to teach patients and families. Independent and collaborative work in a dynamic hospital setting is expected.

Qualifications

• Current Registration as a Dental Hygienist in the Province of Ontario.
• Diploma from an approved Dental Hygienist Program from a recognized College of Applied Arts and Technology.
• Two (2) years related experience with a variety of dental conditions and treatments.
• Previous experience working with medically and physically compromised patients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Superior interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to teach (patients, families, students).
• Enhanced judgement and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated flexibility, time management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
• Experience working with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications and dental scheduling software.
• Excellent knowledge of relevant section of the Health Disciplines Act.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a hospital based dental clinic;
• Proficiency in English and French ¿ oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).

The Ottawa Hospital uses a 5-level language proficiency scale to define the required level of language skills in English and in French for positions at the Hospital, and to evaluate job candidate language skills. Language proficiency requirements are based on the nature of the position and the level of interaction with French and English-speaking clients.
