This position is currently located at the St. Thomas site.

This is for one (1) vacancy, with an anticipated extension until March 12, 2027, subject to funding and workload.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Dental & Vision, the Dental Assistant will provide oral health services in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards, protocols, and the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Responsibilities include assisting with program support, screening, clinical preventive services at schools, and community outreach to promote oral health awareness and disease prevention.

Qualifications
Education
  • Completion of a one-year Dental Assistant Program from an accredited college
  • Current registration with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (preferred)
Knowledge & Experience
  • At least one year of relevant on-the-job experience
  • Knowledge of sterilization practices
  • Experience working with children (asset)
  • Understanding of Ontario Public Health Standards
  • Proficiency in English
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, OHISS, Dentrix, etc.
  • Strong communication skills, including teaching and presentation abilities
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Resourcefulness
Additional Conditions
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
  • Flexibility to work varied hours
  • CPR certification (preferred)
  • Compliance with Ontario Public Health Standards
  • German language skills (asset)
  • Adherence to SWPH policies

Terms of employment follow the CUPE Collective Agreement.

Salary: $27.16 to $32.04 per hour, based on a 70-hour bi-weekly schedule.

Benefits include vacation pay, pay in lieu of benefits post-probation, and OMERS pension enrollment.

A recent criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required.
