Job summary

Calgary Co-op is seeking a Deli Utility Clerk to help maintain a safe, efficient operation and deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced deli environment.

You will report to the Deli Supervisor/Manager and assist with inventory, receiving, cash handling, merchandising, and adherence to health and safety policies. Fluency in English and bakery retail experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Grade 9 or acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Bakery retail or related retail experience.
• Must be fluent in English
• Deli product knowledge/experience

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through proper handling of questions, comments, requests and complaints.
• Stocking displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner; ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns; provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
• Performs general clean up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to maintain a neat department; keeps sales floor and back stock area clean.
• Performs duties following Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure health and safety of staff and customers.
• Reports repair requirements for equipment and tools to Deli Supervisor/Manager.
• Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies; and for receiving including reviewing invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.
• Adheres to Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission rules in stores with liquor licenses.
• Prepares deli platters and trays; operates roasters and cash handling when on deli till; assists with food service where required.

The Deli Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures and standards. The Deli Clerk position reports directly to the Deli Supervisor/Deli Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
• Performs all aspects of the Deli Utility function including but not limited to; stocking displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
• Performs general clean up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department is maintained. Responsible for ensuring the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including disposal of garbage.
• Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
• Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools; and reports repair requirements to the Deli Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.
• Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
• Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.
• In stores, which have liquor licenses, adheres to all rules and regulations as set out by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission.
• Prepares deli platters and trays, operates roasters and in locations with a deli till, performs all aspects of cash handling procedures of the till.
• In locations with a Bistro, assists with customer service and/or food preparation when required.
