Job summary

Kids & Company in Halifax, NS seeks a Part-Time Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations, food prep, and classroom meal deliveries. The role reports to the Chef/Centre Director and requires teamwork to maintain safety and efficiency.

The schedule is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with responsibilities across portioning, food prep, dishware handling, and inventory support. A Food Handler Certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a Kitchen Assistant role.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Current Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in a daycare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
• A clean criminal record check is required.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to minimum 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal and snack portioning and delivery to classrooms.
• Assist with food preparation tasks such as fruit preparation.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies, including bins, serving materials, and delivery carts.
• Collect dishes, utensils, and meal service equipment from classrooms.
• Wash, rinse, sanitize and store dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and food trolleys.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning work areas, equipment, storage areas, and meal service items.
• Assist with organizing, storing, and rotating food products, kitchen supplies, and inventory.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy-awareness and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the Cook and Centre Director to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the kitchen.

Reporting to the Chef/Centre Director, you will be an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the overall management of daily kitchen operations. Your role will involve food preparation and assisting, following Kids & Company standards to align with our mission statement.

We are currently hiring a Part-Time Kitchen Assistantto work Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdayfrom 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
