Job summary

Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association (HSCA) is seeking a compassionate Daycare Alternate Manager to support the Daycare Manager and oversee day-to-day operations of our licensed childcare program. The ideal candidate is an organized Early Childhood Educator with Level 3 Certification and at least two years’ daycare experience, who mentors staff and supports quality programming.

This full-time role includes supervising staff when the Daycare Manager is absent, ensuring licensing and safety

Qualifications

• Level 3 Early Childhood Education Certification.
• Minimum 2 years daycare experience.
• Knowledge of Alberta Licensing Acts & Regulations.
• Current First Aid & CPR certification.
• Valid Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Experience supervising or leading staff.
• Strong organizational & record-keeping skills.
• Familiarity with KinderLogix software.
• Ability to mentor staff and support programming quality.

Responsibilities

• Program Development—support best practices to create a vibrant, engaging daycare experience.
• Provide guidance, observation and goal setting with educators via documentation.
• Staff Leadership—ensure HR and regulatory requirements for daycare staff are current.
• Provide leadership and coaching to all Daycare educators.
• Train new educators during probation.
• Registration and orientation of new children and parents.
• Complete staff scheduling in absence of the Manager.
• Maintain activity schedules supporting best practices in classrooms.
• Maintain accurate child records per HSCA policies and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee Health and Safety Standards and monthly safety checklists.
• Provide on-floor supervision during staff absences.
• Meet and maintain Licensing Standards and Regulations.
• Policy reviews with educators.
• Finances and deposits as needed; grocery ordering with childcare cook.
• Oversight and upkeep of waitlist inquiries.
• Maintain positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and HSCA.
• Communicate with parents in person, by phone or email; support Out of School Care when needed.
• Collaborate with Manager on conflicts and address challenging behavior.
• Follow procedures in accidents and incidents.

This role supports the Daycare Manager in the day-to-day operations of Daycare program.
