Job Description

The Business Banking Governance and Control team (BB G&C) acts as 'first line of defense' and are the protectors of our businesses guided by the Three Lines of Defense Risk Framework: Risk Ownership, Risk Oversight, and Internal Audit. Our overall goal is to oversee the compliance of data risk, controls, and oversight activities, while lending a critical voice as a consultant contributing towards a mutual goal. The businesses we support include Commercial Banking Centres, Small Business Banking, Business Banking Divisional Office, BB Product, & Specialized Financing Groups.

In partnership with the business units and other groups within TD, we play a lead role in management of enterprise-wide programs such as Operational Risk Management, focused on Data Risk & Enterprise Data Management including Authoritative Data Sources, Critical Data Elements, Data Issues Management, Metadata Management, Retention & Disposition, Reference/Master Data Management and Data Management Controls and other ad-hoc activities for Canadian Business Banking.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Data Governance, the Data Steward you will:

  • Provide data governance expertise and supports, manages and / or executes data governance activities for a business or function. Executes on business deliverables in alignment with Data Policy, Standards and Strategy. May provide reporting, analysis, and assessments to support data governance within their business area or function. Appointed as a Data Steward for their business.
  • Drive a strong governance and internal control environment and perform effective challenge
  • Provide leadership team with information, reporting and support to ensure data risks are appropriately managed and adherence to internal policies and procedures is effective
  • Maintain an understanding of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, operational processes, inherent risks, and EDMO, DRM & ORM policies & practices to provide tailored advice and counsel to the Corporate Functions
  • As a trusted advisor to internal business partners, recognize and anticipate emerging trends, identify issues/opportunities, and recommend actions to senior management
  • Provide guidance to the Business on identification of critical data and critical data elements
  • Provide guidance and oversight on the business' metadata management and data quality tasks
  • Provide guidance and oversight on the business' data retention and disposition tasks
  • Partner with technology and architecture stakeholders to drive effective data activities for business
  • Act as a SME and/or research and analyze data issues, remediate and implement changes in various data councils and other forums on behalf of their business
  • Provide specialized data governance / management advice / support to management / leadership and respective teams for area(s) of specialization with industry, external and internal, enterprise and business awareness; understand trends, identify issues and opportunities and provide recommended action to management
  • Lead on the implementation of initiatives in support of the overall data policies, standards, and strategy
  • Manage a set data governance work activity requiring coordination across multiple areas
  • Support / manage the integrated implementation of policies / processes / procedures / changes in across multiple functional areas
  • Provide data governance expertise and/or input to projects/initiatives as a representative for area of specialization, and where necessary participate in identifying, designing and testing solutions and supporting implementation activities
  • Participate in Segment Data Council meetings
  • Support the identification of business data owners and business data SMEs for the LOB
  • Facilitate socialization and training of the LOB data governance and data management community on data policies, procedures, tools, and templates

SHAREHOLDER

  • Support the stewardship of data in accordance with the Enterprise Data Policy, Standards and Strategy
  • Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for respective business area(s)
  • Ensure respective programs / policies / practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities
  • Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate
  • Ensure business operations follow applicable internal and external requirements (e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets)
  • Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
  • Conduct internal and external research projects; support the development / delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience
  • Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs / policies / practices
  • Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist
  • Lead / facilitate and/or implement actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues
  • Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

Experience & Education
