Job summary

Valtech in Canada is seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will design large-scale experiments for a retail client, standardize measurement methodologies, and drive data-driven decisions through KPI analyses.

Ideal candidates bring a strong statistics background, Python or R coding, and SQL proficiency, with collaboration across data engineers and architects. This full-time role offers 140k–160k CAD annually and a comprehensive benefits package.

The role

Please note, we are only accepting applicants from the provinces of Ontario and Québec for this role. For Québec-based candidates, fluency in English is necessary because the position entails collaboration with teams based in the rest of Americas and occasionally in Europe.

Valtech is looking to hire a Senior Data Scientist. Ideal candidates will have strong quantitative backgrounds and analytical discipline. While they will have some demonstrated ability to write code, they will not have learned programming languages for the sake of building their resume, but rather as a means to express their intellectual curiosity and analytical voice. Valtech will provide a platform and training to help them reach their full potential.

Minimum qualifications

• Depth of knowledge in statistics and experimental design
• Experience with designing data models and ETL
• Coding skills in R and/or Python with familiarity with libraries covering core regression, classification, categorization and data visualization modeling
• Ability to effectively communicate technical topics to product owners, stakeholders and other business team members
• Proficiency (can execute data ingestion to insight) in programmatic languages such as SQL, Python, and R.
• Creative thinker, optimistic attitude and tenacious curiosity
• Stron g a ttention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication

Preferred qualifications

• Background in biostatistics or epidemiology
• Experience with crossover trial methodology
• Experience with data engineering and modeling using Databricks
• Linear optimization, constrain generation, and problem formation
• Experience working in an Agile Scrum development environment, or in a consulting capacity
• Experience with Azure, GCP, and/or AWS
• Experience with big data tools like Google BigQuery, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or Elasticsearch
• Certifications in Google ( Professional Data Engineer ) or Microsoft (Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure AI Engineer Associate) are preferred

This is a Full time position based in Canada. 140k to 160k annually, depending on experience and location.

• A comprehensive insurance plan, where you can choose the module that best suits your needs - Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The employer may contribute up to 80% of your coverage depending on the selected module. This plan includes short- and long-term disability coverage.

• Access to a flexible vacation under Valtech's policy to support your work-life balance, with 5 days available during your probation period and a prorated amount calculated for the remainder of the year.
