Job summary

National Research Council of Canada is seeking a Data Science Engineer to support the Digital Technologies research centre in Ottawa. The role involves developing data analytics services for clients, building ML-oriented data products, and collaborating across data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders.

You will design scalable architectures, manage data pipelines, utilities, and deploy client-facing AI solutions while ensuring security and performance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in CS/CE or STEM fields.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE or related STEM with related work experience may be considered.
• Significant experience designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines.
• Significant experience developing backend systems, APIs, or services for data-intensive apps.
• Significant experience building client-facing solutions such as web apps, dashboards or APIs.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team with data scientists.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience working with government/public sector or enterprise clients.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists and client stakeholders to define technical strategies and implementation plans.
• Develop scalable, secure architectures enabling AI and data-driven technologies for clients.
• Build data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access layers for ML, analytics, visualization, and decision-support apps.
• Package AI and data science prototypes into client-facing solutions (web apps, dashboards, APIs, containers, docs).
• Lead development of key technical components ensuring alignment with project objectives and security constraints.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in data pipelines, apps, integrations, and deployments.
• Evaluate new tools and patterns in data engineering and AI enablement for practical use.
