Fidelity Canada is seeking a Data Protection Specialist to lead data privacy practices across the organization, ensuring compliance and mitigating privacy risks. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to drive improvements in data protection controls.
You’ll collaborate with Technology, Security, Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams on privacy requirements, conduct PIAs, and develop privacy metrics and dashboards to inform management.

You will be working on a flexible hybrid schedule as part of Fidelity’s dynamic working arrangement.
The work location for this role is 483 Bay Street in Toronto until approximately late 2026, when the work location will change to the new Mississauga office at 3 Robert Speck Parkway.
Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.
The Data Protection Specialist plays a subject matter expert role within the Data Protection Office (DPO), responsible for leading execution and enhancement of data protection and privacy practices across Fidelity Canada. This role builds on strong analytical foundations to independently manage complex privacy initiatives, provide subject matter expertise, and drive continuous improvement of data protection controls.
The Specialist acts as a key advisor to business and technology teams, ensuring that personal data is handled in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating privacy risks.
- Conduct privacy reviews and assessments for projects, systems, and business processes involving personal data.
- Lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and identify appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Recommend, implement, and monitor data protection controls and remediation activities.
- Maintain privacy risk, control, and assessment inventories, ensuring audit-ready documentation.
- Collaborate with Technology, Security, Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams on privacy requirements and controls.
- Support compliance with privacy regulations, internal policies, and ethical data use standards.
- Assist in the investigation, tracking, and remediation of privacy incidents and breaches.
- Develop and maintain privacy metrics, dashboards, scorecards, and management reporting.
- Deliver privacy awareness, training, and communication initiatives across the organization.
- Drive continuous improvement of the organization's privacy and data protection program.
- 1+ year of experience in data privacy, data protection, information risk management, or a related field.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Economics or Mathematics or equivalent working experience.
- Experience recommending and implementing privacy operating controls.
- Hands-on experience conducting PIAs and managing remediation activities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with strong attention to detail.
- Experience maintaining tracking tools, inventories, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience working with business and technology stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Data Governance, Data Management, cybersecurity, or information security is an asset.
- Professional data privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) are an asset.
- Strong practical knowledge of Data Protection principles and Privacy Impact Assessment processes and tools
- Able to work and develop practical solutions under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Knowledge of financial services, products, processes, and industry is an asset
- Works independently from time to time and regularly handles non-routine situation
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems
- Solid understanding of data flows, technological environments, and operational processes

For this role, your total rewards include
- Base Salary and Discretionary Performance Bonus Total annual cash compensation (base salary plus target bonus) ranges from $79,000 to $113,000, based on your experience and qualifications.
