Job summary

Fidelity Canada is seeking a Data Protection Specialist to lead privacy initiatives within the Data Protection Office, overseeing privacy reviews, PIAs, and data protection controls while partnering with Technology, Security, Risk, Compliance and Legal teams.

You’ll work in a flexible hybrid model with remote, hybrid and in-office options, helping maintain regulatory compliance and strengthen the organization’s privacy program.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience in data privacy or data protection or information risk management.
• Experience conducting PIAs and managing remediation activities.
• Experience implementing privacy operating controls.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of Data Governance, Data Management or information security is a plus.
• Professional privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) are assets.

Job Description Data Protection Specialist

You will be working on a flexible hybrid schedule as part of Fidelity’s dynamic working arrangement. The work location for this role is 483 Bay Street in Toronto until approximately late 2026, when the work location will change to the new Mississauga office at 3 Robert Speck Parkway. Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.

What You’ll Do

The Data Protection Specialist plays a subject matter expert role within the Data Protection Office (DPO), responsible for leading execution and enhancement of data protection and privacy practices across Fidelity Canada. This role builds on strong analytical foundations to independently manage complex privacy initiatives, provide subject matter expertise, and drive continuous improvement of data protection controls. The Specialist acts as a key advisor to business and technology teams, ensuring that personal data is handled in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating privacy risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct privacy reviews and assessments for projects, systems, and business processes involving personal data.
• Lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and identify appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• Recommend, implement, and monitor data protection controls and remediation activities.
• Maintain privacy risk, control, and assessment inventories, ensuring audit-ready documentation.
• Collaborate with Technology, Security, Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams on privacy requirements and controls.
• Support compliance with privacy regulations, internal policies, and ethical data use standards.
• Assist in the investigation, tracking, and remediation of privacy incidents and breaches.
• Develop and maintain privacy metrics, dashboards, scorecards, and management reporting.
• Deliver privacy awareness, training, and communication initiatives across the organization.
• Drive continuous improvement of the organization’s privacy and data protection program.

What We Are Looking For

• 1+ year of experience in data privacy, data protection, information risk management, or a related field.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Economics or Mathematics or equivalent working experience.
• Experience recommending and implementing privacy operating controls.
• Hands-on experience conducting PIAs and managing remediation activities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with strong attention to detail.
• Experience maintaining tracking tools, inventories, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Experience working with business and technology stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Data Governance, Data Management, cybersecurity, or information security is an asset.
• Professional data privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) are an asset.

• Base Salary and Discretionary Performance Bonus: Total annual cash compensation (base salary plus target bonus) ranges from $79,000 to $113,000, based on your experience and qualifications.
