The Opportunity

Fidelity Investment Canada (FIC) Managed Accounts is building a technology-enabled discretionary investment management platform to scale portfolio construction, monitoring, and reporting.

The Managed Accounts Portfolio Engineer (“the engineer”) will be responsible for delivering repeatable portfolio construction and oversight capabilities. They will do this by building and maintaining analytics, tools, and data workflows that support investment decision-making and operational execution. The role partners closely with portfolio management, risk, compliance, operations, and technology teams to enhance risk reporting, improve data quality, and enable portfolio customization through advanced statistical analysis.

What You’ll Do
  • Contributes to building scalable portfolio construction and rebalance tools that support managed account solutions and personalized investing needs.
  • Internally scope the systems, data and infrastructure required to aid in systematic portfolio construction
  • Map data dependencies and inputs to the portfolio construction process.
  • Partner with internal resources to ensure consistency and build towards a center of excellence around portfolio construction.
  • Develop first generation tools to implement systematic portfolio construction
  • Develop and maintain investment monitoring and risk reporting (including data pipelines) that are accurate, repeatable, and decision useful.
  • Apply advanced statistical analysis to enhance risk modelling and portfolio customization capabilities using large datasets.
  • Partner across technology, product, operations, and compliance to implement controlled workflows that align to platform strategy and governance expectations.
  • Improve investment process efficiency through automation, standardization, and documentation across portfolio engineering workflows.
What We’re Looking For
  • University degree in finance, economics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in portfolio analytics/portfolio engineering, risk analytics, investment technology, or a related investment management function.
  • Demonstrated programming experience (e.g., Python/R) and query/data manipulation skills (e.g., SQL) used in production or near-production processes.
  • Experience building or maintaining portfolio analytics and/or portfolio construction workflows in an investment context or similar.
  • Experience producing monitoring and/or risk reporting tools (preferably in a wealth management context) with documented data quality and control practices
  • CFA Level 1 or programmatic degree
Nice to haves:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AI/ML technologies, natural language processing and emerging trends.
  • Experience with enterprise reporting applications (e.g. PowerBI, Snowflake, Tableau)
  • Working knowledge of multi-asset products and market dynamics sufficient to support portfolio oversight decisions.
  • Experience supporting discretionary managed account platforms and scalable advisor-facing tooling.
  • Exposure to personalization features such as tax optimization and/or direct indexing in a managed solutions context.
  • Experience with portfolio/market data platforms (e.g., portfolio management systems, risk platforms, and market data terminals)
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., finance, analytics, statistics, computer science, AI).
  • Formal coursework or applied training in investment analytics, econometrics, artificial intelligence or data engineering.
What You’ll Bring
  • Quantitative/statistical analysis applied to investment datasets (e.g., time series, factor/risk analytics, scenario analysis).
  • Strong programming and data skills (e.g., Python/R and SQL) with ability to build reliable analytics pipelines and reusable tooling
  • Data management fundamentals (lineage, quality controls, reconciliation, documentation) supporting production reporting and monitoring.
  • Portfolio construction, rebalancing principles, and portfolio oversight concepts for multi-asset solutions.
  • Working knowledge of investment operations and controls (trade modelling impacts, monitoring outputs, and governance expectations).
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies, natural language processing and emerging trends in data science field.
