Job summary

The Globe and Mail is seeking a Data Protection Specialist (IT) for a hybrid role based in Toronto. The role focuses on privacy law compliance, consent management, data protection, and collaboration with cybersecurity, legal, and operations teams.

Candidates should have extensive privacy/data governance experience and strong leadership to guide policy and risk across the organization.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of privacy and data governance experience.
• Post-secondary degree in privacy or information security, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Canadian privacy laws and best practices.
• Experience with data protection activities such as data mapping, privacy impact assessments and vendor risk assessments.
• Project or program management experience.
• Familiar with risk management and compliance, including policy application guidance.
• Understanding of databases, cloud systems, data flows and security controls.
• Strong leadership and clear communication across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data protection activities including consent management administration and data mapping.
• Support continuous improvement of data protection tools, policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to implement privacy processes.
• Integrate data protection into governance and intake channels.
• Develop and deliver team training on new controls and processes.
