Job summary

RBC is seeking a Data Prioritization Analyst to work with data domains to prioritize critical data for key business processes and regulatory reporting.

You will collaborate with Data Management and governance teams, document CDEs and metadata, and support data quality initiatives across Risk, Finance and Compliance.

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of experience in Data Management, accounting, risk management, and/or Data Analysis.
  • Undergraduate degree in a numerical discipline, business administration, finance or a combination.
  • Good communications skills - verbal and written.
  • Some experience with business and/or technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify Data Elements that are most critical and have the highest impact on RBC's key processes.
  • Engage Data Domain stewards and Business Unit leadership to identify key processes and prioritization.
  • Engage Report Owners to prioritize data using enterprise CDE methodology.
  • Support other Data Management activities.
  • Capture and curate metadata for CDEs for regulatory reports.
  • Ensure metadata for Data Prioritization/CDEs is present in Collibra.

What is the Opportunity?

In the increasingly complex world of financial services, accurate and complete data is critical for Risk management, financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Ensuring data governance begins with an understanding of financial services data, identifying the critical elements (CDEs), data quality controls and resolving data issues.

Job Description

As a Data Prioritization Analyst with the data prioritization team, you will be accountable for working with various Data domains to prioritize critical data associated with business processes. Reporting to the Associate Director, you will work in collaboration with other teams providing data services such as the DMO’s, Data Lineage, Data Quality, Metadata management, and Data Completeness Teams.

What will you do?
  • Create and support repeatable, robust process to identify Data Elements that are most critical and has the highest impact on RBC’s key processes. Seek out industry trends and organizational knowledge to understand alternative approaches / solutions to propose viable options
  • Engage Data Domain stewards and Business Unit leadership to identify and define key business processes and prioritization and identification of critical reports
  • Engage Report Owners and their delegates to prioritize data utilizing the enterprise approved Critical Data Element (CDE) identification methodology.
  • Support other Data Management activities.
  • Identify, capture and curate metadata associated with CDEs (such as Business Term, Data Classification, Owning Data Domain, vintage tags among other things) for U.S. key regulatory reports.
  • Accountable for IHC Regulatory Reporting Data Domain metadata associated with Data Prioritization / CDEs to be present in Collibra, Enterprise Data Governance Platform.
Communication and Documentation
  • Document the critical data, its usage in business process and reports and rationale for critical data in firm standard CDE memo document template
  • Engage with key stakeholders from Risk Management, Finance, Liquidity, AML and other business Units
  • Manage and report on work status, including escalating execution risks in a timely manner
Training and Continuous Improvement
  • Gain and apply an in-depth understanding of data management, data governance, and metadata tools and systems to support the definition and documentation of effective data elements.
  • Work with the Chief Data Office and other Data Management Offices to support standards and best practices to improve data quality, participating in initiatives to raise awareness and drive improved data quality across the organization (e.g., Data Working Groups, Data Literacy projects).
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • 2-3+ years of experience in Data Management, Accounting, risk management, and/or Data Analysis
  • Undergraduate degree in a numerical discipline, business administration, finance or a combination
  • Good communications skills - verbal and written
  • Some experience with business and/or technical documentation
Nice-to-have
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, having a strong drive to achieve tangible results; ability to manage multiple competing priorities in times of stress
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial products, reporting and data related issues.
  • Familiarity with financial service regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g. US regulatory reporting, BCBS 239)
  • A background in delivering data initiatives in Agile tooling (Jira)
