The Lillooet Tribal Council is seeking a Data Manager / Communications Assistant for a part-time, temporary position. The role focuses on data collection and communication regarding salmon catch monitoring, collaborating with community members and Fisheries & Oceans Canada. Job Summary
The role involves collaborating with Lillooet Tribal Council, community members, and Fisheries & Oceans
Canada. The northern St’at’imc Data Manger helps produce accurate and timely estimates of FSC harvest
of salmon by First Nations in the Mid-Fraser River system to support sound management decisions.
Learning when and where particular stocks or run timing groups are being harvested, and indicators of
abundance, such as measures of catch per unit effort (CPUE), are vital tools in making in-season
management decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect and track all data sheets from all the monitors participating in the catch monitoring
program and submit all data specific to this agreement to the DFO catch monitoring technician
• Provide fishery opening/closure information to the monitors for distribution to the communities
• Ensure that all catch data forms are filled out correctly before being entered into the DFO MERCI
database and if errors are noted contact monitors for further clarification.
• Assist the DFO Catch Monitoring Technician with the entry of catch data into the DFO MERCI
database
Qualifications / Experience Include:
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint
• Must be organized and able to categorize data
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
• Fisheries related experience or qualifications are desirable, but not necessary
• Proof of a valid BC driver’s license, to be submitted to the departmental Project Authority
• Must pass an Enhanced Reliability security check. (Criminal Record Check)
• Own transportation would be an asset
