Ian Martin Group is recruiting a Data Governance Advisor on behalf of our client for a 5-month hybrid contract in Calgary, AB. The role supports the REWS governance and planning team to mature data governance, track progress, and develop dashboards.

The successful candidate will coordinate governance activities, monitor data quality, build Power BI dashboards, and collaborate with data stewards and SMEs to improve data quality and governance processes.

Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of experience in data governance, data quality management, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise data governance programs and initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data stewardship, data ownership, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders and governance activities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain data governance logs, action registers, and program trackers.
  • Track governance deliverables: ownership, stewardship, glossaries, data dictionaries, quality rules, scorecards.
  • Monitor governance KPIs and provide status reporting to leadership.
  • Coordinate governance meetings, capture decisions, and document actions.
  • Escalate overdue governance activities, risks, and issues to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a centralized data quality issue register and follow up on items.
  • Collaborate with Data Stewards and SMEs to resolve data quality issues.
  • Monitor and analyze data quality metrics, trends, and performance indicators.
  • Support root cause analysis and track remediation to completion.
  • Document business rules, data quality requirements, and governance standards.
  • Validate corrective actions and confirm issue resolution.
  • Develop governance documentation: process maps, SOPs, governance standards, RACI matrices.
  • Identify gaps and improve governance templates and standards.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and reporting.
  • Develop governance reporting on data quality metrics, stewardship coverage, governance maturity, and compliance status.
  • Create executive dashboards, visualizations, and summaries.
  • Ensure consistent data definitions and reporting standards.
  • Partner with Data Owners, Stakeholders, and Tech teams to support governance objectives.
  • Facilitate governance workshops and stakeholder discussions.
  • Promote awareness of governance standards and accountability.

Job Overview
  • The Real Estate & Workplace Services (REWS) Governance and Planning team is seeking a Data Governance Advisor to support the implementation and ongoing maturation of its data governance program. Reporting to the Digital Solutions/Data Governance Lead, this role will coordinate daily governance activities, monitor data quality initiatives, track program progress, and develop meaningful dashboards and reporting to measure outcomes.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in improving data quality, strengthening data stewardship practices, enhancing governance processes, and driving data-focused decision-making across REWS. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with business and technology stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain data governance issue logs, action registers, and program progress trackers.
  • Track completion of governance deliverables, including data ownership assignments, stewardship assignments, business glossaries, data dictionaries, data quality rules, and data quality scorecards.
  • Monitor governance KPIs and provide regular status reporting to leadership.
  • Coordinate governance meetings, capture decisions, and document action items.
  • Escalate overdue governance activities, risks, and issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain a centralized data quality issue register and ensure timely follow-up on open items.
  • Collaborate with Data Stewards and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to resolve data quality issues.
  • Monitor and analyze data quality metrics, trends, and performance indicators.
  • Support root cause analysis efforts and track remediation activities through completion.
  • Document business rules, data quality requirements, and governance standards.
  • Validate corrective actions and confirm successful issue resolution.
  • Develop and maintain governance documentation, including process maps, operating procedures, governance standards, RACI matrices, and supporting artifacts.
  • Identify process and documentation gaps and implement improvements to governance templates and standards.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and reporting solutions.
  • Develop governance reporting related to data quality metrics, stewardship coverage, governance maturity, issue aging, resolution trends, and compliance status.
  • Create executive-level dashboards, visualizations, and summary reports.
  • Ensure consistent application of data definitions, reporting standards, and performance measures.
  • Partner with Data Owners, Data Stewards, business stakeholders, and technology teams to support governance objectives.
  • Facilitate governance workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Promote awareness of governance standards, processes, and accountabilities across the organization.
  • Support change management initiatives and communication activities related to data governance programs.
