Job summary

Northern Lights School of Dance is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Dance Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will teach ballet, pointe, contemporary ballet and jazz to students from preschool through advanced levels, following NLSD curriculum and RAD principles. This is initially a one-year contract with renewal potential.

Wage: $40.00-$55.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of dance teaching experience with children and youth.
• Strong background in dance education, including experience teaching multiple age groups and levels, developing lesson plans and delivering progressive dance instruction
• Experience choreographing group and/or individual performance work
• Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, or ability to obtain one
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate dance instruction for students of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels as assigned
• Teach classes in accordance with NLSD curriculum standards and, where applicable, RAD syllabi and teaching principles
• Promote technical proficiency, artistry, creativity, musicality, and confidence in students
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual development.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
• Communicate with dance families regarding dancer progress
• Be responsive and respectful when responding to dance family concerns
• Host parent observation classes as required
