CWB Welding Inspector/Supervisor 47.1 – Permanent full‑time position (Sept‑Îles, QC).
The CWB Welding Supervisor / Level 1 Welding Inspector is responsible for overseeing welding operations and ensuring all welds meet applicable CWB certification requirements (CSA W47.1/W59) and quality standards. This role combines hands‑on supervision of welders with inspection duties to verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), drawings, and client requirements. The position plays a key role in maintaining CWB certification, supporting quality assurance processes, and ensuring safety and efficiency in all welding‑related activities.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision Duties
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily welding operations in the shop and/or field.
- Ensure all welding activities comply with CWB certification standards and company quality procedures.
- Verify welders are qualified for assigned procedures and maintain up‑to‑date records.
- Liaise with CWB representatives during audits, testing, and certification renewals.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to welders on procedures, techniques, and best practices.
- Review and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications to plan and assign work.
- Monitor use and control of welding consumables, materials, and equipment.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies and proper PPE usage.
- Coordinate and supervise qualification testing sessions.
Inspection Duties (Level 1 or 2)
- Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with CSA W59, ASME, and client specifications.
- Verify weld size, contour, and profile meet acceptance criteria.
- Confirm preheat, interpass temperature, and fit‑up requirements are met.
- Review and confirm WPS and welder qualifications are applicable to the work performed.
- Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and traceability documentation.
- Report and document non‑conformances and support corrective action processes.
- Collaborate with QA/QC and project teams to ensure quality and schedule alignment.
- Help develop inspection test plans.
Qualifications
- CSA W178.2 Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification – required.
- Minimum 5 years of welding and fabrication experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or inspection capacity.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, & FCAW) and common fabrication practices.
- Proven ability to read and interpret welding drawings, codes, and specifications.
- Familiarity with NDE methods and reporting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or production tracking software an asset.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with structural steel, pressure piping, or heavy industrial fabrication.
- Knowledge of material traceability and document control practices.
Working Conditions
- Shop or field environment depending on project requirements.
- May involve standing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
- Occasional overtime, weekend, or travel may be required.
- Use of PPE and adherence to all company and site safety standards required.
Profile
Must be French speaking or bilingual.
Schedule
2 weeks on / 2 off FIFO or 5 days a week if local (if preferred).
Hours
Guaranteed 50 hrs/week.
