Job summary

Calgary Co-op is seeking a Customer Service Cashier to join our team in Calgary. This role focuses on delivering friendly, efficient service at checkout, assisting customers, stocking and merchandising, and maintaining a clean, safe store environment.

The position requires basic cashier duties, English fluency, and prior retail experience. Candidates should be prepared to handle cash, follow safety guidelines, and adapt to a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 9 or equivalent education and related retail experience.
  • Must be fluent in English and have cash handling experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and maintain positive customer relations through proper handling of merchandise, questions, comments, requests, and complaints.
  • Perform stocking and display tasks and maintain presentation and stock levels around racks and front displays.
  • Handle merchandise to ensure quality, minimize damage, and maintain price integrity including price changes.
  • Perform general cleaning duties to keep the sales floor and back stock area neat and organized.
  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations to ensure safety of staff and customers.
  • Report repair requirements to the supervisor or manager and maintain proper equipment care.

Customer Service Cashier

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service and maintain positive customer relations through proper handling of merchandise, questions, comments, requests, and complaints. Work proficiently and friendly in a diverse team environment.
  • Perform all aspects of stocking and display functions efficiently and organized. Maintain display presentation and stock levels in and around candy/magazine racks and front displays.
  • Handle merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damage, markdowns, and ensuring price integrity including price changes.
  • Perform general clean‑up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department. Ensure the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including disposal of garbage.
  • Perform duties following established Occupational Health and Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
  • Ensure the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools, and report repair requirements to the Customer Service Supervisor, Front End Manager or Duty Manager.
  • Adhere to regulated laws (e.g., age restriction).
  • Maintain a working knowledge of PLU codes.
  • Advise supervisor of any merchandise and supplies that require ordering.
  • Perform all aspects of the Customer Service Cashier functions, including opening and closing duties.
  • Operate the checkouts and cash handling efficiently.
  • Order money, merchandise and supplies as required.
  • Receive, review and verify invoices, returns, transfers, claims and properly store products as required.
  • Organize and take inventory as required.
  • Operate all aspects of the Customer Service Office functions efficiently, including opening and closing duties, POS reporting, lottery, cash balancing, security system checks, mail sorting, collecting money from vending machines, maintaining a donation log, bulletin boards, and communicating public announcements as required.
  • Operate the Customer Service Office checkouts and cash handling efficiently as required.
  • Implement Customer Service programs, run and balance reports, and prepare for armored car service as required.
  • Perform file maintenance duties as required.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Grade 9 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Related retail experience, including the provision of customer service.
Desired Skills and Abilities
  • Previous cash handling, banking or related retail experience.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Basic Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Previous retail cashier experience.
  • Employees must successfully complete and maintain the following courses: Cashier‑training program (within probation or class trial).
