Your Average Day At LPL Includes
- Representing the library as a first point of contact for members of the public.
- Creating new memberships, collecting fines and fees, checking out material to customers, and other related circulation tasks.
- Taking part in resolving operational customer issues and problems related to general circulation and customer service.
- Providing basic troubleshooting of area computers, printers, photocopiers, self-checkout stations, and other equipment as required.
- Providing basic reference, reader’s advisory, and search assistance.
- Helping customers with the use of online resources such as Bibliocommons, library databases and downloadable collections.
- Performing opening and closing procedures and other duties associated with working at a customer service point.
- Specific duties as required in support of unit or department:
- Assist with collection maintenance and related tasks.
- May take part in planning, organizing and delivering outreach activities.
- May update and provide input for resources lists and handouts, website content, and other resources such as social media.
- Other duties as required.
What You Need To Bring To This Position
- High school diploma. Post-secondary education and/or related training is an asset.
- Customer service and cash handling experience are an asset.
- Ability to contribute positively and work effectively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with basic computer and office equipment and troubleshooting skills.
- Problem solving skills and proficiency with searching and online resources.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to be culturally aware, non-judgmental and sensitive to the needs of a variety of individuals with differing backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate good listening skills.
- Decision making skills and the ability to always exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library.
- A commitment to treat customer information in keeping with privacy legislation and library policy.
Hours of work and location:
- 50 hours bi-weekly, including day, evening and weekend shifts.
- Working at the Main Branch and reporting to Manager: Customer Services
Salary Range
$22.44 - $26.53 per hour as per C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement (under review).
Note
The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check prior to the start date.
