The City of Lethbridge seeks a Customer and Circulation Assistant for the Lethbridge Public Library. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, assisting with circulation tasks, and engaging with the community through programs. Candidates should possess a high school diploma, customer service experience, and the ability to work with diverse populations. This is a term appointment expected to last until April 2026.

Lethbridge Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, positive, and thoughtful customer and circulation assistant who will provide the best customer service experience in Lethbridge. The top priorities in this role include delivering first-rate customer service, being flexible in meeting our customer’s needs, being a welcoming presence, delivering engaging children’s and youth programs, and fostering a supportive team environment.
This position is split between two roles, Customer Assistant and Circulation Assistant, with at least half the hours in the Customer Assistant role.
This is a term appointment and will terminate upon the return of the incumbent, expected to be by April 2026.
Your average day at LPL includes:
Representing the library as an initial point of contact for members of the public.
Creating new memberships, collecting fines and fees, checking out material to customers, and other related circulation tasks.
Providing basic reference, reader’s advisory, and search assistance.
Taking part in resolving operational customer issues and problems related to general circulation and customer service.
Providing basic troubleshooting of area computers, printers, photocopiers, self-checkout stations, and other equipment as required.
Performing opening and closing procedures and other duties associated with working at a customer service point.
Processing materials returned to the library and performing related tasks.
Monitoring the condition of returned library material and making minor repairs as needed.
Running circulation system reports and performing related tasks.
Processing and resolving operational circulation issues, communicating with the customer as necessary.
Specific duties as required in support of unit or department:
Deliver programs and provide input into planning and evaluation.
Take part in planning, delivering, and evaluating outreach activities.
Assist with collection maintenance, monitoring use and providing input.
Set up meeting rooms, monitor bookings, and assist with equipment.
Performing tasks related to regular collection maintenance.
Assessing damaged items and follow related procedures.
Other duties as required.
What you need to bring to this position:
High school diploma. Post-secondary education and/or related training is an asset.
Customer service and cash experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with general office computer use and basic troubleshooting.
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, especially teens.
Ability to be culturally aware, non-judgmental, and sensitive to the needs of a variety of individuals with differing backgrounds.
An interest in and aptitude for library programming for a variety of audiences and age levels in an asset.
Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate good listening skills.
Decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.
A commitment to treat customer information in keeping with privacy legislation and library policy.

Salary Range:
Customer Assistant $22.44 – 26.53 hourly as per C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement. (under review)
Circulation Assistant $20.05 – 23.66 hourly as per C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement. (under review)
Note:
The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check before the start date.
