Job summary

Upper Pine Elementary is seeking a Custodian to perform cleaning and minor maintenance under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and Head Custodian. The 4-hour workday, five days per week, runs for eleven months, with a starting salary of $25.98/hr.

Responsibilities include interior cleaning, securing premises, basic repairs, safety compliance, and seasonal duties. The position requires WHMIS and related safety training within probation and a Vulnerable Sector check prior to starting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 or equivalency.
  • Minimum 1 year of commercial cleaning or school cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate large, self-propelled auto scrubber and window cleaning equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle may be required.
  • Reading comprehension of written instructions and safety bulletins.
  • Ability to work with the public and be well organized.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • WHMIS certificate and safety training to be completed within probation.
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check prior to starting employment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and disinfects building interior, fixtures and windows. This includes garbage removal, sweeping, vacuuming and wetmopping floors. Also performs some related cleaning duties to the exterior of the buildings and landings.
  • Responsible to secure doors and windows in their area.
  • Performs minor maintenance on doors, windows, lamps, schoolfurniture and other fixtures.
  • Overseen by the Head Custodian and under the general direction of the siteAdministrative Officer(s)/Supervisor, organizes theregular work day according to daily priorities. Must accommodate evening user groups.
  • Assists with seasonal clean ups which include stripping, scrubbing and waxing floors andwashing walls, desks, furniture, etc.
  • Maintains and ensures tools and equipment are in good working order.
  • Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.
  • Ensures the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.
  • Assumes the role of Head Custodian if needed.
  • Informs the Supervisor(s) and or siteAdministrative Officer(s) of vandalized equipment or property.
  • Performs other job related duties as directedby the siteAdministrative Officer(s)/Supervisor and Head Custodian.

CUSTODIAN
Position Description:

There is a position available for a Custodian at Upper Pine Elementary. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor in cooperation with the siteAdministrative Officer(s), and overseen by the Head Custodian, this position is responsible for custodial and minor building maintenance work in the cleaning of School District facilities. This position is effective September 8, 2026 to June 30, 2027, or until the return of the incumbent, whichever occurs first.

Hours of work: (4) hrs.per day, five (5) days per week

Duties to Commence: September 8, 2026

Work Year Base: Eleven (11) months per year

Commencing Salary: $25.98/hr.
