CASUAL RELIEF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

CUSTODIANS – All Sagamok Departments

JOB SUMMARY:

Custodians are responsible for ensuring that standards of cleanliness, attractiveness, a clean environment, and safety and security are met in various locations within Sagamok Anishnawbek buildings. The Custodians will be available to perform relief coverage as needed and shall be responsible for general cleaning and carrying out routine maintenance required for maintaining and operating the facilities to the required standards.

In support of Sagamok Anishnawbek’s goal of providing quality management, Custodians shall work cooperatively with all departments to provide quality services to its membership.

POSITION DUTIES:

  1. Maintain the cleanliness of the building and its grounds.
  2. Report breaches of security and all acts of vandalism to the Infrastructure Manager.
  3. Promptly provide a list to the Manager of all repair and maintenance that require the services of a skilled tradesperson.
  4. Carry out preventative and general maintenance i.e. replace light bulbs, as required.
  5. Regular disinfection duties.
  6. Regulate heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to prevent temperature appropriate to the season and ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  7. Check building and maintain heat on weekends during inclement weather.
  8. Maintenance outside grounds, ex. mow the lawn; cut and control noxious weeds.
  9. Keep all designated sidewalks and entrances free from snow and ice.
  10. Help move furniture, equipment, displays and supplies.
  11. Assemble furniture and items for teachers as requested.
  12. Lock up building at the close of each shift.
  13. Attend and participate in Infrastructure meetings.
  14. Participate in community development meeting, training session and ISO activities.
  15. Participate in regular supervision and performance evaluations with assigned supervisor.
  16. Maintain a daily checklist and logbook of activities.
  17. Other duties relevant to the buildings and as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Grade 10 education. Experience as a Custodian is an asset.
  2. Able to follow all label instructions on chemical materials and operating instructions for powered equipment.
  3. Developed interpersonal skills and effectively work as a team member with management and employees.
  4. Be able to work flexible hours, relief or overtime to attend to emergency situations.
  5. Must be on call to open and close facilities when meetings are held outside of normal business hours.
  6. Non allergic to cleaning chemicals.
  7. Ability to operate powered equipment found in janitorial operations.
  8. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  9. Ability to perform the physical demands of the job.
  10. Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain).
  11. WHMIS certificate.
  12. Successful candidate to provide valid (within 6 months) criminal records check/Vulnerable Sector check.
