CUPE 25/26 - 02: Early Childhood Educator (Part Time)

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools is located on the original lands of the Cree, those of Treaty 6, and on the homeland of the Métis nation. Position: The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) works under the direction and general supervision of the principal and receives functional guidance from the Director/Consultant of the Early Learning Team. The job focuses on the development, programming and supervision of children (enrolled in Kindergarten) in educational and alternative settings. The ECE is responsible for all aspects of primary care and supports the nurturing of growth in children.

The Nature of Kindergarten program is an extension program that fosters the God-given gifts and talents of the child in the natural environment. The program provides benefits of fresh air, nature, physical activity, social/emotional regulation, increased stamina, strength, and endurance by leveraging natural areas around the school such as green spaces and walking trails.

The Early Childhood Educator is expected to create early learning experiences and environments that support learning through play. The Early Childhood Educator guides play and documents children's progress. The Early Childhood Educator works collaboratively with the school team and the Kindergarten teachers where extension programming is offered.

The job is involved in planning inquiry-based programming that follows the (FLIGHT) and is responsible for providing an enriched environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Early Childhood Curriculum Studies Degree, Early Childhood Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Early Childhood Supervisor Certification () is required.
  • Three years of directly related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of early learning specialization, including child development, communication, emergent curriculum and environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both French and English is an asset.
  • Knowledge of programming for children with Individual Program Plans.
  • Knowledge of multimedia, technology and equipment, Microsoft programs including excel, and Google Suites.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with school teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to influence decisions.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information.
  • Strong consultation, facilitation and needs assessment skills.
  • Flexible with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division's goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Explore early learning play experiences including art, music and drama.
  • Collaborate in the creation of developmentally appropriate play experiences.
  • Consult and collaborate with teacher, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) members, and families to ensure continuity with strategies and supports for children with diverse needs.
  • Create experiences to support the exploration of the world around us, supporting language and communication with a learn-through-play philosophy.
  • Use the FLIGHT framework to plan experiences that enhances development and dispositions to learn.
  • Maintain child documentation for visible learning (I.E — learning stories and portfolios as outlined in the FLIGHT framework).
  • Communicate with families to share child's experiences and developmental growth.
  • Provide personal and physical care.
  • Provide social and language development support.
