The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is seeking a Cultural Workshop Facilitator to organize weekly cultural and traditional workshops for IRS IDS 60’s Scoop Survivors and their families.

Under supervision, you will coordinate presenters, draft posters, manage attendance, handle supplies, and support related youth programs. Evening and weekend flexibility is required; some travel may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Organize cultural workshops on topics relevant to culture and spirituality.
  • Contact workshop presenters/Knowledge Keepers to facilitate workshops.
  • Draft informational posters for upcoming workshops.
  • Follow up with clients to confirm attendance.
  • Keep records of workshops, participant details and attendance sheets.
  • Order snacks and ensure materials are available for workshops; manage inventory.
  • Create and update a Calendar of Workshop Activities; post and distribute.
  • Set up and clean up before/after each workshop.
  • Assist with Eagles Nest Youth Program as required; located off-site.
  • Prepare payments for presenters and food vendors.
  • Be a team player; perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Service Delivery and the IRS Program Coordinator, the Cultural Workshop Facilitator will be responsible for setting up weekly cultural/traditional workshops for the IRS IDS 60’s Scoop Survivors and their families.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of First Nation’s cultural values and traditions.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team.
  • Punctual, dependable and reliable.
  • Able to follow directions in a timely fashion.
  • Working in a confidential work selling.
  • Be well organized.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed.
  • Flexible working evenings and weekends, if required.
Duties:
  • Organize cultural workshops on topics relevant to cultural and spirituality.
  • Contacting workshop presenters/Knowledge Keepers to facilitate cultural workshops.
  • Drafting up informational posters on all upcoming workshops.
  • Contacting and following up with clients who have signed up for workshops, to confirm their attendance.
  • Keeping track records of workshops completed, names and contact information of participants, including sign in sheets, bus ticket distribution.
  • Ordering snack food, ensuring materials are on hand for workshops and keeping inventory.
  • Create and continuous update a “Calendar of Workshop Activities”, posting and distributing.
  • Set up, clean up before and after each workshop.
  • Assist at the Eagles Nest Youth Program, as required. Located off site.
  • Prepare payments for presenters and food vendors (cheque requisitions).
  • Be a team player.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preference will be given to First Nations people. If successful, applicants will be asked to provide verification of citizenship documentation issued by a First Nation or government-issued documentation or affirmation from Inuit, Métis, or non-status Indigenous community with which they identify.
