Job summary

Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority seeks a Coordinator – Cultural Wellness to plan and coordinate trauma-informed, culturally safe health and wellness services for children, youth and families in Sioux Lookout and surrounding communities.

Working with the Anishinaabewaadiziwin Team and Elders, you will promote cultural identity through land-based activities, life path teachings, and traditional guidance, while ensuring thorough records and collaboration with the healing and wellness

Qualifications

  • Preference given to Persons of First Nations ancestry.
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout district.
  • Knowledge of the people, culture, language, and health priorities of the First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout District.
  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in a health-related field and/or Indigenous learning.
  • Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
  • Experience providing training on First Nation topics.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to communities.
  • Understanding of serving culturally diverse populations and First Nations health priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Anishinaabewaadiziwin Team and Elders to align practices with First Nations culture and values.
  • Provide cultural and trauma-informed training to SLFNHA staff and clients.
  • Plan and coordinate trauma-informed, age-appropriate emotional and cultural support for children, youth and families.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate land-based activities across age groups.
  • Organize gatherings and access to traditional teachings with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Support family-based approaches and traditional healing processes.
  • Coordinate group-based cultural counseling grounded in First Nations worldviews.
  • Assist clients in navigating cultural resources within their community or SLFNHA.
  • Conduct educational workshops and outreach on cultural healing and wellness.
