The incumbent is responsible for the initiation and provision of treatment, stabilization, and safe transport of emergent, urgent, and non-urgent patients via air and, in some locales, land. They will complete relevant documentation and perform general duties of a paramedic, including assessment of injuries or medical illnesses such as trauma, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, overdoses, industrial accidents, and other conditions requiring emergency medical treatment.
The role involves administering pre-hospital emergency care, including oxygen therapy, CPR, spinal immobilization, bandaging, splinting, IV treatments, and ventilation and circulation adjuncts. The incumbent will also provide critical care interventions in pre-hospital and inter-facility settings, such as advanced airway management, mechanical ventilation, pharmaceutical infusions, blood administration, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support, and care for high-risk obstetrical and neonatal patients. They will maintain emergency equipment and supplies, ensure a safe work environment, document injuries and treatments, and collaborate with dispatch centers and hospital staff to ensure proper care.
The Flight Paramedic practices within their scope of practice, adheres to all relevant directives, policies, and procedures, and supports the strategic vision of Ornge.
