Job summary

The Government of Yukon’s Emergency Medical Services (YEMS) seeks a Critical Care Flight Nurse for an auxiliary on-call position based in Whitehorse. You will apply advanced life support skills to pre-hospital and inter-facility transports, evaluating patients and implementing treatment plans in challenging environments.

Applicants must hold current Canadian nursing registration and Critical Care or Emergency Nurse certification, with a willingness to work 75 hours bi-weekly and participate in

Qualifications

• Current registration with a Canadian nursing regulatory authority.
• Critical Care Registered Nurse or Emergency Nurse certification or recent ED/ICU/high acuity experience.
• Pre-hospital transport experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-hospital and inter-facility treatment and transportation.
• Evaluate patient condition and perform assessments to establish a treatment plan.
• Work in environments with limited medical support and long transport times.
• Collaborate with the Superintendent and Air Ambulance teams to ensure patient care.

This opportunity

Reporting to the Superintendent, Air Ambulance theCritical Care Flight Nursewill employ professional Critical Care Life Support skills to provide pre-hospital and inter-facility treatment and transportation to the general population. Evaluates the patient's clinical condition and performs detailed assessments in order to establish a treatment plan in support of optimal patient care. Works in environments where there is no medical support and where transport times routinely exceed four hours.

Important application and job requirements

• Current Registration with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority
• Critical Care Registered Nurse or Emergency Nurse certification or recent experience working in an Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, or related High Accuity Unit.
• Previous or current experience working in the pre-hospital transport environment will be considered an asset.
