Job summary

The London Police Service in Ontario is seeking a Crime Analyst in the Criminal Investigation Division for a temporary, full-time role. You will analyze crime data, produce reports and maps, and support investigations and court proceedings. Collaboration with analysts and investigators across agencies is required.

The position emphasizes presenting findings to senior management, testifying when needed, and contributing to proactive crime reduction efforts in a dynamic policing environment.

Qualifications

• 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Sociology, or a related field.
• 1-2 years’ related experience in research, crime analysis, or a related field.
• Knowledge of SQL is an asset.
• Experience with Accurint, Workstation, Excel, Access, ArcGIS and i2 is an asset.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and judgement for complex analysis.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-organizational collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Monitor local events with potential public safety implications.
• Collect computer-based evidence and attend court to testify as required.
• Present information about crime analysis to diverse audiences.
• Serve as subject matter expert on crime analysis; perform other duties as assigned.

Status: Temporary, Full Time (Anticipated 6-month contract)

Salary: $95,537 (Starting) to $115,529 (at 30 Months)

Position Summary:

Responsibilities:

• Analyze large volumes of data including crime occurrences, call data, and tracking data from vehicles and phones to identify patterns in crime, events, locations, groups, and individuals.
• Identify problems, areas, and people of concern to proactively reduce crime.
• Examine patterns identified and develop and recommend solutions to investigators and/or senior management.
• Produce tactical and strategic analytical reports and visual aids such as crime maps and charts to support patrol and investigations and to present in court.
• Develop and deliver presentations to Senior Management to provide information, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Produce trend reports, project summary reports, street crime reports, prolific interaction and chronic mental health reports, and other reports as required.
• Collaborate with fellow analysts and investigators at external agencies to assist investigations and work on local, regional, and provincial task forces.
• Monitor and assess local events (e.g., protests) with potential public safety implications.
• Collect computer-based evidence (e.g., social media content) and attend court to testify as required.
• Present information related to the work of crime analysts to various audiences.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for the organization on crime analysis.
• Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements:

• 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Sociology, or a related field, or equivalent.
• 1-2 years’ related experience (e.g., research, crime analysis, or a related field).
• Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) is an asset.
• Experience working with Accurint, Workstation, Excel, Access, ArcGIS, and i2 is an asset.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and judgement needed for analysis and developing or recommending solution to problems of a complex nature.
• Excellent communication skills for regular contact throughout entire organization to discuss technical information or decisions where different points of view may be expected, with tact, discretion, and persuasion.

Temporary members receive ten percent (10%) of their hourly rate in lieu of benefits (after 120 calendar days) and are also eligible to join the OMERS Pension Plan upon their first day of hire.

Hours of Duty:

Day shift; Monday-Friday
