About this Position
The Department of General Education at Mount Royal University invites applications for contract appointments to teach UGST 1002– Change, Challenge and Choice - in the Fall 2025 semester which commences September 4, 2025 and ends on December 22, 2025. For the Fall 2025 semester, the course is scheduled for in-classroom delivery, on-campus. The calendar description for UGST 1002 is below:
This course presents current research and strategies related to effective coping in a rapidly- changing world. Topics such as stress, effective coping, relating and working well with others, and putting change in perspective are included. Lectures, discussions, and assignments are intended to emphasize the applicability of what students are learning to experiences they are likely to encounter during their lives, and particularly as students in the university setting.
Core topics addressed in the course include (but are not limited to) stress, coping, mental health, self-care, social support, emotions and communication, nutrition, exercise, loss and grief, and mindfulness.

The Department of General Education stewards the liberal education requirement at Mount Royal University. All students enrolled in degree programs at the institution take up to twenty-five percent of their courses from general education. General Education courses at MRU engage four general clusters that are relevant to all students: Cluster One - Numeracy and Scientific Literacy; Cluster Two - Values, Beliefs and Identity; Cluster Three - Communities and Societies; and, Cluster Four - Communications. The Department of General Education has jurisdiction over first year courses in the General Education provision, while a majority of the remaining courses are offered by academic units across the university.

Ph.D. preferred, Masters degree required. Prior successful post-secondary teaching experience and an academic/professional background in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology or health/human services are an asset.
