Job summary

Western University’s MPH Program seeks a part-time lecturer for the 0.50 FCE course MPH 9011 Community Health Assessment & Program Evaluation. The incumbent will develop and deliver the course, set and mark exams, and evaluate student work through the term ending 2027/04/30.

The ideal candidate holds an MSc or PhD in a relevant field, with proven university teaching experience and a background in program development, implementation, and evaluation, plus involvement in community health

Qualifications

• Candidates must have an MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion).
• Ideal candidate will have demonstrated record of high performance and expertise teaching at university level and/or experience in public health.
• Background in program development, implementation and evaluation is essential for teaching this course.
• Experience with community-based public health initiatives will be valuable to guide students' problem-solving across contexts and populations.

About Us

Established in 2013, Western's MPH Program is a 12-month, case-based, and team-based academically rigorous graduate program.

With real public health issues as the foundation of student learning, students will be immersed in some of the most significant and complex public health crises that our country and planet have experienced. Students will learn about public health in a team-based setting where they practice decision-making skills under pressure. The MPH Program has a special focus on public health issues experienced in Southwestern Ontario, First Nations populations across Canada and international populations, this Program will help students foster a special skill set to better understand and assess health problems and develop appropriate solutions for various communities.

Course Information

The course will review theories and practical tools to inform an integrated approach for the program planning, implementation and evaluation processes, specifically in the context of public health. The course provides guidance in identifying program elements, setting goals and objectives, developing a plan to implement the initiative within a specific context, and the underlying principles and values of the evaluation process. The students will learn to effectively engage with diverse people and communities in order to assess, plan, advocate, justify and evaluate a project that meets the needs of a range of stakeholders and priorities. Students will learn to develop through practical application to a real-world scenario: needs assessments, logic models, key evaluation questions, process and outcome indicators, data collection tools and methods, data analysis, and clearly defined project deliverables.

NOTE: This is a 0.50 FCE appointment.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.
