McGill University invites applications for a Winter 2027 course instructor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) to teach EDTL 626: Advanced Applied Methods in Teaching Science in Secondary School. The appointment runs from December 21, 2026 to April 30, 2027, and the instructor will lead secondary science methods, support teacher candidates, and integrate the Québec Education Program and equity-focused pedagogy.

Remote delivery may be used if required.

Qualifications

  • Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field; PhD preferred.
  • Strong grounding in science education theory, curriculum, and pedagogy at the secondary level.
  • Experience teaching secondary science and supporting teacher candidates in teacher education and/or science methods courses.
  • Knowledge of the Québec Education Program (QEP), its competencies, progression of learning, and curriculum expectations for secondary science.
  • Experience using digital technologies in science teaching and learning.
  • Equity, diversity and inclusion in science education.
  • Familiarity with online platforms (myCourses, Zoom) to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.

Hiring Unit: Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) Course code and title: EDTL 626. Advanced Applied Methods in Teaching Science in Sec. School.

Location: SH680 451 Schedule: Tuesday, 05:35 pm-08:25 pm Appointment dates: December 21, 2026 - April 30, 2027

Term: Winter 2027 Course Credits: 3

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
  • Education 1.Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field. PhD preferred.
  • Strong grounding in science education theory, curriculum, and pedagogy at the secondary level.
Experience
  • School-based science teaching experience in secondary schools, preferably in Quebec.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates in teacher education and/or science methods course contexts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of: The Québec Education Program (QEP), including competencies, progression of learning, and curriculum expectations relevant to secondary science.
  • Advanced pedagogical approaches for teaching science that support science process skills, conceptual understanding, inquiry, and the development of scientific thinking.
  • Unifying themes and foundational concepts in science education, including the nature of science.
  • Equity-oriented and inclusive approaches in science education.
  • Practice-based pedagogies, including rehearsal-based approaches to supporting the development of teaching practice.
  • Planning, instructional, and assessment practices relevant to secondary science teaching.
  • Integration of digital technologies in science teaching and learning.
  • Professional competency frameworks and professional repository documentation relevant to teacher education.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates in planning, rehearsing, implementing, and reflecting on science teaching practices.
  • Previous experience teaching these themes within other university-level courses may be considered equivalent to having taught the specific course.
Other
  • Knowledge of the impact and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Familiarity using myCourses, Zoom and/or other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.
  • Familiarity teaching blended classes.
  • Instruction in this course may be delivered remotely if indicated as required by the university.
