Schedule: Wednesday, 05:35 pm-08:25 pm

Appointment dates: December 21, 2026 - April 30, 2027

Description

Provides insight and understanding of the Quebec secondary mathematics program. Focuses on key areas of what secondary mathematics teachers need to know and be able to do to support students’ development of mathematical understanding (focus on mathematics content, students’ reasoning, and pedagogy). This course is not Team Taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs)
  • Education 1.MA in a relevant field (i.e. mathematics education) and/or extensive relevant experience as a school educator/teacher/pedagogue/community educator
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset
Experience
  • Expert knowledge of: Secondary mathematics pedagogy, as outlined in the course description Mathematics content and practices related to secondary mathematics curricula Research on secondary science pedagogy Research on secondary students’ mathematical thinking and practice
  • Experience as a master teacher/instructor in mathematics, science, or a related field in the Quebec educational system
  • Knowledge of Quebec Education Program (QEP)
  • Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation
Other
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
  • Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset
  • Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
  • Familiarity of and/or experience with practice-based pedagogies in mathematics teacher education is an asset.

  • Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors.
  • Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date.
