Counselling Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)

KPU is seeking applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) counsellor based at the Richmond campus, working Monday to Friday (35 hrs/week) for a one-year term starting September 1, 2025. Shortlisting begins the week of May 12, 2025, with interviews scheduled in the following two weeks.

Partial remote work is possible, with current practice being 60% on-campus and 40% remote. Details about working conditions are outlined in Article 12 of the Kwantlen Faculty Association (KFA) Collective Agreement.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience in individual and group counselling, assessment, and triage.
  • Expertise in treating various mental health, psychosocial, and emotional concerns.
  • Trauma-informed practice, crisis intervention, and suicide assessment skills.
  • Experience working with young adults from diverse backgrounds, including 2SLGBTQIA+ and cross-cultural clinical practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • Understanding of ethical issues related to university counselling.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Counselling Psychology (MA/MEd) or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., BCCSW, BCPA) or certification with RCC or CCC.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant counselling or equivalent experience.
  • Experience navigating institutional systems within post-secondary settings is preferred.
  • Fluency in an additional local language or ASL is an asset.
